Research log

Lee Towndrow:


Lee Towndrow is a visual artist. His photos usually have people in them however, the people are not always the main focus of his pictures. Most of the time he uses colour in his photos to get the effect he wants. He doesn't stick to the same use of colour as some of his pictures of bright while others are more subtle. I personally like his photography as it makes the pictures more interesting to look at as well making you wonder why he uses that combination of colours.

Florian Ritter's photographs range from landscape and life shots to portraits. His landscape photos use depth giving the effect of something being far a way. i like his landscape photos more than his portraits as i like that he focuses on one point of the image and it seems ads if the the background forms naturally around it.





Francois-Xavier Marciat:

Francois -Xavier Marciat is a landscape photographer, he uses both colour and black and white for his photos. i think that his black and white photos are best as they show tone which often helps to create a atmosphere for his photos. i  like his photography as he gets close for some of his landscapes yet he can completely change then and show a large amount of depth in his photos.

Carlo Bellavia is a American photographer. Most of his pictures are taken in black and white or sepia. By taking his pictures like this Bellavia is able to show the form of the things he is taking picture of. i like his photography as i think that by taking his pictures like that he is able to make them look 3-D and natural at the same time.


Ansel Adams:

Ansel Adams is a natural and wildlife photographer. The majority of his work is in black and white which helps to create the use of tone in his work. At lot of the time his work also shows lines quite clearly. I like his photography as I think its interesting to see the wildlife and nature without colour but with them still looking natural. I also like the way he shows lines in his photos as it doesn't look like he has tried to actually take the photos of the lines, it looks like they have just formed whilst he's taking the picture.

Aaron Ruell is an American photographer and actor. Most of his photos involve people in quite a family like setting. He often uses pattern in the background of his photos. The effect of this usually helps to show the year he is trying to stage the image to be. I think this is effective and nowadays when we see some wallpapers with certain patterns we think that they are from a certain period of time.

Nicolas Samaras is a underwater photographer. His photos range from using colour and pattern to tone. I personally like all of his photos as I think that they show the range in effects that these different elements can have on a photo. I think that his coloured and patterned photos are best as he is able to show a clear element of these forms because of the fact he can get close to then animals he is taking pictures of.

 Edward Weston is a landscape photographer but often shows texture in his photographs. By doing this Weston is able to give his images a 3-D feel. i personally like his landscapes as they show more than one of the formal elements i.e texture and depth, in  a clear way.

Paul Scharff is a natural photographer. Most of his photo use colour and texture to give a realistic feel to his pictures. it think that he achieves this in his photographs as he makes the pictures seem as though they are in there natural environment even when there not. he also shows the surroundings in there natural environments when there not the main focus of the image.

Robert Capa is a wartime photographer. His photos reflect the seriousness of the scenes that were in front of him. I like his photos because he just sticks to the simplicity of the image to tell the story. He doesn't hide behind anything.

Jay Maisel is a American photographer. Most of his work is kept simple and he doesn't use lighting or fancy camera lens'. I like his photos because he keeps things simple so that nothing is taken away from the main aspect of the picture.

Galen Rowell is a international photographer. He is best know for he landscapes. i like his photos because of the way that he includes depth and form, by doing this he is able to be creative with the way his photos are finished.

Eliot Porter is best known for his nature photography.  I like his photography as i like that way that he uses colour to show the different elements of his photos. i think this is effective as it makes the different parts of the image and makes them stand out where necessary.

Per Bak Jensen is best known for his landscape photography. most of his landscapes include tone in them. i think that this helps to create a more serious mood in his photos which helps the focus to just be on the image. I like his photos because of the way he makes the main focus of the image stand out.

Pete Turner is best know for his colour photography. i like his photography because i think that he uses colour in a creative yet natural way as i don't think any of the colours ever look out of place or unnatural. i also think that the use of colour helps the backgrounds to stand out when necessary.

Adam Burton is a landscape photographer. i like his photography because he uses a range of depth and form in his photos as well as the use of colour. i think that his photos are simplistic and natural as i think he gets across his ideas for his images really well.

Michael Kenna is a natural landscape photographer, he tries to create original landscapes by photographing the scenes form interesting perspectives. i like the way that he uses tone and depth in his photos, its almost like he gives his photos a deeper meaning through this.  like the way that his photos vary and the way that he uses his creativity.

John Baldessari is a photographer who includes colour in many of his pieces. The way that Baldessari uses colour is to block some parts of his images or to add extra details on to the image. i like the way that he does this because it is original and creative which always Baldessari to stand out from others.

Zuzana D's photography ranges from simplistic landscapes and portraits. i like the way the Zuzana D uses colour in her photos as i find it to be natural and simplistic even though the colours stand out. i think that her use of colour makes her images to be different to others.

Many of Andreas Gursky photographs include pattern in a original way. i like the way that he shows his pattern in his photographs as i think that it stands out from other pattern images and makes him a original photograph.
